Chesapeake Apothecary: Lighting Up Maryland’s Medical Marijuana Community

As one of the top medical marijuana dispensaries in Maryland, Chesapeake Apothecary has
offered customers premium cannabis products since opening its first location in 2018.
Recently, we were lucky to sit down with their content manager, Mandi Hayes, to learn more
about Chesapeake Apothecary’s mission. Here’s what she had to say.

A Passion for Helping Others
Founded by former culinary artist Seth Erlin, Chesapeake Apothecary is passionate about
helping customers find the right medical cannabis products. From helping those with arthritis to
cancer patients, they understand how beneficial medical cannabis can be and strive to make it
easily accessible.
Now, they’re expanding and have opened the first social equity processor in Maryland called
Alchemist Labs and have two brands, Eden and Temple.
Their new products are all solventless and clean, carefully curated with their patients in mind.
When describing their selection, Mandi states, “We’ve got Moroccan hash, live rosin, bubble
hash, Nepalese Temple balls, bubble hash infused joints, and that’s just going to grow with
variety.”

Bringing Hope to First-Time Patients
One of the main things that stand out about Chesapeake Apothecary is the team’s ability to
bring hope and clarity to first-time medical marijuana patients.
Mandi details one powerful experience with a 9-11 first responder with PTSD. After
experiencing severe anxiety going to doctor’s appointments and being near helicopters due to
the nature of her job, she decided to visit Chesapeake Apothecary and give medical cannabis a
try. After considering her individual needs and the different terpenes that could work
synergistically to help her, Mandi and the team found a product that worked for her.
The next day, she called in tears to describe how much their product helped her. When
describing their conversation, Mandi recalls, “For the first time in twenty years, she was able to
see an ambulance and helicopter and not have a full-blown panic attack from one hit of this
medication.

In another account, Mandi describes losing one of her pediatric patients to cancer and how
cannabis improved his quality of life. She states, “With a patch, his mom said he could play
video games and eat dinner. He’s not incapacitated on the couch after his chemo treatment.”
With such a wide variety of conditions that medical cannabis can help with, Chesapeake
Apothecary shows they understand the importance of individualizing everyone’s, getting them
the best possible results.

Question 4: Legal Recreational Cannabis in Maryland
With recreational cannabis soon becoming legal in Maryland, Chesapeake Apothecary’s
inventory may include a variety of recreational products in the near future. However, for now,
Mandi is unsure how recreational cannabis licenses will be regulated. Since recreational
cannabis is for adult use, they may have to follow the same licensing protocols used for alcohol
purchases.
Furthermore, the potency of permitted recreational products is still up for debate, so
Chesapeake Apothecary will have to wait and see what regulations they will need to follow. Just
know that once the sale of recreational cannabis is allowed in Maryland, their doors will be
open, and they’ll be ready to continue serving the Maryland community.
